United Colors of Benetton

Anyone remember United Colors of Benetton?
I used to love their ads...and still do..they captured current events, spurred controversy and all in the name of selling sweaters.
Speaking of sweaters I would have given my right arm to have owned one of their colorful cable knits circa 1989, no matter the color I just wanted one bad.
Here are some of my favorites over the years.
I will start with a glimpse into the Aids epidemic 20 years ago

The picture of a young man  David Kirby in his dying hours,as photographed by Therese Frare was ran by United Colors of Benetton as part of an add campaign in 1992 and became as you can imagine incredibly controversial.. The add was run with the consent of his loving parents to bring awareness to the devastation of Aids which had taken his life. The Catholic church would denounce this photograph and foundations would call for the boycott of Benetton as a result.

In the words of the great Oliviero Toscani the man behind these infamous ads:

Our prints does not tell people to buy our clothes, they are not even hint at it. All of our increasing aim at creating disputes over those items that are usually true, but that we believe should be widely discussed.

Vegas Spring 2011

I did something epic in Las Vegas
I married the best man ever
I took the boys to see Love (Beatles) I have wanted to take them since
I saw the show 2 yrs ago. It was just as amazing different wonderful
They also saw Blue Man Group which resulted in one happy 10 yr old
We ate no less than 3 buffets
We lost 300 dollars..maybe it was 4
My wedding night: Awesome
Our song: Elvis I can't Help Falling In Love With You
I wore the boys out
Played slots that had real coins instead of vouchers
Made a stop by Laughlin
Said My Vows
Giggled while doing it
Fell in love even more
and Thanked The Lord
For Being
Such A Lucky Woman

Nothing makes a good wife like a good husband

Las Vegas is Everyman's cut-rate Babylon. Not far away there is, or was, a roadside lunch counter and over it a sign proclaiming in three words that a Roman emperor's orgy is now a democratic institution. "Topless Pizza Lunch." ~Alistair Cooke

Las Vegas looks the way you'd imagine heaven must look at night. ~Chuck Palahniuk

The night before I left Las Vegas I walked out in the desert to look at the moon. There was a jeweled city on the horizon, spires rising in the night, but the jewels were diadems of electric and the spires were the neon of signs ten stories high. ~Norman Mailer

Las Vegas: all the amenities of modern society in a habitat unfit to grow a tomato. ~Jason Love

With Clarity

these days have been chilly and lovely and beautiful...Happy Beautiful New Year ...Thursday brings:

looking at my fine young sons and Logans friend and just wanting to soak up every molment of 2 teenage boys in their fifteenth year full of hopes, dreams and aspirations and becoming themselves. I sure am proud to witness such a gentle soul from birth to now.. I always have called Logan a gentle lion..he reminds me of the lion from The Wizard of Oz but smarter... when I look at him all I can think is damn I have done something right.... Nicholas is the most wonderful artisit...a natural..he wants to start selling his work..for a quarter per illustration..I will be framing his pictures in the coming months and creating a beautiful wall of fame...Jake is my special baby and will be fine no matter what because he has our love and compassion and attention and he is such a happy little guy... I look around and feel so blessed in every way.. and positive about the future.. clear and moving forward... I have to say I am in a pretty good place...thats it and thats all for now...time for the snow shots:)
